EMPORIA -- Stockton High School senior Koby Beougher has enjoyed a terrific golf career for the Tigers. On Monday, he capped it with his first individual state championship when he collected the Class 1A title in a playoff against Tribune-Greeley County's A.J. Govert at Emporia Municipal Golf Course. As well, WaKeeney-Trego Community won the state title with a 330, 23 strokes ahead of runner-up Olpe.

Beougher shot a 75 and was tied after the first 18 holes. Beougher went 38-37 to win the title.

Then the pair tied after the first playoff hole. Beougher delivered a par on the second playoff hole to win. Beougher finished first in the Washington County/Linn regional last week with a 76, his third straight regional championship.

Beougher went to state all four years and helped Stockton reach state as a team for three years. A Barton Community College signee, Beougher was runner-up last year, 15th as a sophomore in 1A and 21st as a freshman in 2A. Beougher won six tournaments and had two runner-up finishes, including the MCL championship.

For WaKeeney, Dion Reetz shot 77 for fifth place, while Cameron Staples shot an 80, Blake Huxman had an 85 and Luke Reeder had an 88 for the top four scores. John Griffith also shot 104 and Tanner Townley collected a 111.

At the sand greens state tourney in Tipton, La Crosse finished fifth and Bird City-Cheylin was sixth in the six-team field. Mankato-Rock Hills went 1-2-3 and shot a 293.

La Crosse shot a 342 and Cheylin shot 346. The top area finisher was Sylvan-Lucas' Collin Herold, who shot a 77 for fifth place.
