The University of Kansas basketball players have long had a well-established Barnstorming tour through the state, including numerous stops in Hays. This season, members of the Kansas State University and Wichita State University men's basketball teams will get into the mix with a visit to Hays High School tonight.

The Barnstorming game, which is largely a fundraiser for recently graduated collegiate athletes and has no direct ties to the individual programs, will begin at 7 p.m. in the HHS gym. The event starts with an autograph session at 6 p.m.

Admission is $10 and tickets can be purchased at the door.

The game portion of the evening will have the collegiate athletes faceoff against area high school all-stars.

"It's the first time Wichita State and K-State have done a Barnstorming," said Hays High boys' basketball coach Rick Keltner, who is helping organize the event. "It's always been fun for us. We've had the KU Barnstormers a lot of years. I'm just thankful we've had a lot of kids get to play against a lot of great players in our gym and this is another opportunity."

Will Spradling, Shane Southwell and Omari Lawrence will represent KSU, while Nick Wiggins and Chadrack Lufile will represent WSU.

A total of 17 high school athletes will take part in the all-star game, which will be played in two 20-minute halves. Among those participating will be all six seniors on Hays High's fourth-place state team: Lane Clark, Kyler Niernberger, Clayton Riedel, Kenny Rounkles, Kade Parker and Jordan Windholz. Also taking part will be Thomas More Prep-Marian seniors Ryan Mayorga and Jordan Gottschalk.

Other notable athletes are Plainville's Hadley Gillum, Hoxie's Kade Spresser, Hill City's Shane Jones, Oakley's Darius Herl and Stockton's Reed Stephens.

"It's a chance for people to show respect to those programs," Keltner said. "Every high school kid will play, platoon style ... and we will make sure everyone gets autographs, too."
