ERIE, Colo. -- The Hays Senior Legion baseball team, originally scheduled to play in a tournament at Canon City, Colo., split a doubleheader Saturday against Ralston, Neb., in Erie, Colo. The Canon City tournament was cancelled. Hays will play Erie, Colo. in a doubleheader today before returning home to face Salina at 6 p.m. on Monday at Larks Park.

In Saturday's split, Hays fell 7-6 in the opener, then took Game 2 10-0 in six innings against Ralston.

Hays (8-7) rallied from a 7-3 deficit in the seventh inning of Game 1 with three runs, but fell just short, leaving the tying run at first base when John Griffith flew out to center field. Marcus Altman took the loss in four innings. He gave up seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits with two walks and strikeout, before Brady Bieker came on in relief.

Ralston scored its seven runs through the first four innings. Dan Bittel went 2 for 4 with a run scored for the Eagles, as did Chandler Rule. Clayton Basgall was 1 for 3 with a double, and Griffith had a triple, and scored a run. Kade Parker had a two-RBI single in the seventh.

In the nightcap, Parker through a no-hitter through five innings. He struck out six and walked two. Bittel, Hutchison, Rule and Griffith each had two RBIs. Hutchison had a two-run home run in the five-run fourth inning for Hays. Basgall, Bittel, Hutchison and Layne Downing each had two hits. Hays collected 12 hits in the game.
