Tiger baseball drops two more games in Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Fort Hays State University baseball team dropped its final two games off an MIAA series Friday with unbeaten Missouri Southern State University.
FHSU dropped Game 1, 7-2, then fell in the nightcap, 2-1, to fall to 3-8 overall and 2-6 in MIAA play. Missouri Southern is 12-0, 8-0.
In Game 1, the Tigers trailed 5-0 before getting its two runs in the fifth inning off a two-run home run for Alex King.
FHSU starter Joe Mapes pitched 4.1 innings. He surrendered all seven runs (four earned) on nine hits and a walk, and dropped to 0-2.
In the series finale, Horace Johnson provided the Tigers' lone run with an RBI double in the sixth inning.
Nathan Zimmerman (0-2) started and pitched three innings. He gave up both runs to take the loss on two hits with five walks and a strikeout. Alex Cox pitched four innings and Austin Unrein an inning.
Fort Hays is scheduled to play at home Wednesday in a single 2 p.m. game against Northern State at Larks Park.
