The Fort Hays State University baseball team was blown out 18-0 in its MIAA series opener Saturday against the University of Nebraska-Kearney at Larks Park.

Fort Hays manged just two hits in dropping its sixth straight game and fall to 3-9 overall and 2-7 in MIAA play.

The two teams play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. today at Larks Park, then wrap the series with a noon game Monday.

Kearney (10-6, 4-5 MIAA) blasted out 18 hits and capitalized on five Tiger errors, while Fort Hays chewed through four pitchers.

Starter Steven Federau lasted just two-thirds of an inning for FHSU. He gave up two runs (none earned) on a pair of hits and a walk to six batters faced.

Then Drew Martineau surrendered eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits with a pair of walks and three strikeouts through 2.2 innings.

Lucas Wedgwood (.2), and Josh Norris (3.0) finished the game and combined to allow eight runs on nine hits with one walk each.

Cooper Langley and Ausitn Unrein collected the Tigers' two hits.

Today's Game 1 is a scheduled seven-inning game, followed by a nine-inning game.
