Tiger baseball 1-3 in series

BOLIVAR, Mo. — The Fort Hays State University baseball team continued its struggles with a 1-3 showing at Southwest Baptist (Mo.) University this weekend. Fort Hays lost 14-3 and 9-6 on Friday and lost 16-15 and won 12-5 on Saturday. FHSU now stands at 13-24 overall and 11-21 in the MIAA.
In Game 1, Tyler Patty, the Tigers’ best starting pitcher the last couple of series, worked four innings and allowed six runs on 13 hits. In Game 2, SBU tallied five runs in the second inning. Steven Federau went 4.1 innings in the start for the loss.
On Saturday, Fort Hays was down 16-9 entering the top of the seventh, but scored six runs in the top of the seventh. FHSU had 15 runs on 17 hits, while SBU tallied 16 runs on 21 hits. Austin Unrein took the loss when he allowed 12 runs, all earned, on 15 hits in 4.1 innings. Southwest Baptist used six pitchers in the game. Clayton Garland had two doubles and a triple, while Jordan Miller and Cooper Langley both homered. Garland finished 4 of 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Fort Hays led 5-0 after three innings. Joe Mapes collected the victory with 7.2 innings of four-run ball for the Tigers. Kodie Fewin and Casey Sedbrook each had three hit days for FHSU. Kevin Czarnecki and Fewin homered.
