WICHITA -- For the first time this season, the Fort Hays State University baseball team has a three-game winning streak.

The Tigers, in their first of a 10-game road swing, took out Newman University, 10-6, in a weather-shortened, eight-inning contest.

The win moved the Tigers to 10-18 overall. Newman dropped to 14-15.

FHSU scored three runs in the first inning on three Newman errors to take the early lead, but Newman battled back to eventually tie it at four.

James Denton had a two-out RBI double in the sixth to put FHSU back on top for good. Nathan Zimmerman started, but pitched just one inning, followed by Drew Martineau, who went three innings.

Ty Thomas pitched the fifth and sixth to pick up the victory, and move to 1-0. Thomas allowed two earned runs on three Newman hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Gus Strunk worked around one earned run through the seventh and eighth to help the win.

Cooper Langley finished 3 for 4 for the Tigers with an RBI. Gabe Cook was 3 for 5 with a run scored and two driven in. Horace Johnson also drove in a pair of runs, both on outs. Clayton Garland was 3 for 4 and scored three runs.

Starter Ryan Skoubo (1-2) took the loss for the Jets.

The Tigers continue the road swing with a 3 p.m. single game today at University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla.
