Herman earns MIAA honors for FHSU

LAWRENCE -- Fort Hays State University's Trey Herman collected MIAA honors, but didn't hold onto his lead for MIAA Golfer of the Year honors in the points race. Herman led entering the MIAA championships this week, but finished in a tie for 15th and earned 35.33 points.
University of Central Missouri's Travis Mays finished second at the MIAA championships that concluded Wednesday, good for 13.5 points and a final tally of 43.5 points for the year. Herman is the first Tiger men's golfer to collect MIAA honors since Kevin Quinley in 2011, and is the highest FHSU golfer ever ranked in the points system.
Herman did lead the Tigers with rounds of 76, 74 and 75 as FHSU finished in 10th place with a 938. In the team points race, Fort Hays took eighth with 28.5 points. University of Central Missouri, ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division II, won the tournament with an 867.
The women finished in eighth place behind a 273 from Sami Hobson, good for 26th place. Fort Hays shot a 1,151 and University of Central Oklahoma won with a 958.
