HHS golf ties for 16th

HUTCHINSON -- The Hays High School boys' golf team tied for 16th out of 34 teams on Friday at the Hutchinson Invitational, held at the Carey Park Golf Course. The Indians finished with 335 to tie with Shawnee Heights. Kapaun Mount Carmel won the tournament with 290, followed by Manhattan and Blue Valley West, each with 298. All five WAC schools competed, the highest finisher being Garden City with a 304, good for sixth place.
Hays High's top individual finisher was junior Nathan Romme, who shot an 11-over 82. Senior Lane Clark shot 83, with senior Kaden Beilman and sophomore Payton Ruder each shooting 85 to round out the scoring. Senior Chase Lynd and junior Cash Hobson also competed, shooting 89 and 92, respectively.
Blue Valley West's James Henderson won the individual championship, shooting 68. Kapaun's Sam Stevens took second with 70. A 73 was needed to medal in the top 10.
The Indians will next compete at the Great Bend Invitational on Monday. Tee time is 3 p.m. Their junior varsity golfers will compete at the Thomas More Prep-Marian Invitational, held Monday at Smoky Hill Country Club. Tee time is 9 a.m.
