GREAT BEND -- Hays High School's Marie Reveles earned honorable mention All-WAC honors by finishing seventh in the girls' varsity cross country race at the WAC championship meet on Thursday in Great Bend. Reveles ran the 4K race in 16 minutes, 25 seconds.
Haley George was Hays High's next best runner. She took 19th with a time of 17:26.
The Indian girls took fifth as a team with a score of 102. Garden City won with a score of 21. Dodge City (66), Liberal (75) and Great Bend (89) rounded out the field.
"Very pleased with the efforts of our kids today," wrote Hays High coach Jerold Harris. "When we look at the progress they made throughout the season, comparing their first time at Great Bend to their times today, it was very exciting the improvement."
The Indian boys took fourth place with a team score of 82. Liberal took first with 38, followed by Garden City (48) and Great Bend (66). Dodge City took fifth with a score of 109.
Hays High was led by Landon Munsch, who missed honorable mention All-WAC honors by one spot, finishing 11th in a time of 17 minutes, 49 seconds in the 5K race. Zachary Hopp finished 14th in 17:56 and Kendall Kandt 16th in 18:03.
"Good efforts from our guys squad today," wrote Harris. "We currently have a (five) person pack time of just 25 seconds, and through (seven) it was 29 seconds. So we are very pleased with that. We now need to move our pack up toward the front to help lower our team score."
Hays High's Austin Chambers was the top junior varsity runner of all the schools with a time of 18:18.
Hays High will next compete at state regionals on Oct. 26.
