Larks fall to Bee Jays

LIBERAL -- The Hays Larks dropped their second straight game Saturday in Jayhawk League play.

Hays (21-8 overall, 15-8 league) fell 6-1 to the Liberal Bee Jays.

The Larks posted nine hits, two each from Ty Gilmore, Clayton Garland, Brent Gillispie and Zair Koeiman, but left 11 runners stranded in the contest. Gillispie and Koeiman each recorded a double.

Chandler Hawkins (4-2) took the loss in four innnings. He gave up four runs (two earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and four walks. The Larks also committed two errors. Liberal took the lead for good with a three-run fifth inning.

The Larks' lone run came in the third inning on Koeiman's RBi double.

Hays has a non-league game at 7 p.m. Monday against Denver at Larks Park. The league-leading Larks hit the road for a midweek three-game series Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at second-place El Dorado.
