The Hays Larks needed one extra inning Saturday night, but got the job done against the Liberal Bee Jays in Jayhawk League action at Larks Park.

Cody Daily delivered a one-out, RBI single in the 10th inning, and the Larks defeated the Bee Jays 2-1 to push their lead back to 1.5 games in the Jayhawk League race.

Hays moved to 24-9 overall and 17-9 in the league, while Liberal dropped to 17-15, 12-15.

Chandler Hawkins had arguably one of his best outings for the Larks this summer, but ended up in a no-decision in the pitchers' duel.

He thew 8.2 innings and allowed one run on five hits. He struck out 10 and walked none, but did hit a batter in the ninth. David Owen picked up the win in relief as he pitched the final 1.1 innings.

The winning hit was Daily's second hit of the night as Hays collected 14 hits, three coming from Clayton Garland and four from Ty Gilmore. Aaron Cornell drove in the Larks' other run on a single as Hays took a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
Zair Koeiman also had a pair of hits.

Hawkins and Liberal starter Justin Bethard each went 8.2 innings, neither getting the decision.

Hays and Liberal play again at 7 p.m. Sunday at Larks Park. It is Poker Hand Night at Larks Park. Fans on hand can purchase poker hands for a chance at prizes and the HOG (Harley Owners Group) will be on hand to deliver the Larks to the field on Harley Davidson motorcyles prior to the start of the game.
