The Hays Larks defeated Fort Collins, 10-0, on Friday in the first of two weekend games against the Foxes at Larks Park. Game 2 was played Saturday night.

Manager Frank Leo used five different pitchers in Friday's non-league win, led by starter Aaron Breit, a Thomas More Prep-Marian graduate and Lark alumnus playing in his first action of the summer. He went five innings, allowing two hits with two strikeouts against 16 batters.

Brett DeGagne, Craig Larkin, Ian Bentley and Spencer Applebach each pitched one inning of relief to get the collective shutout.

The Larks led 1-0 after three and a half innings, the run coming in the bottom of the second inning on a fielder's choice hit by designated hitter Cooper Langley.

Hays scored eight of its 10 runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, with a final run coming in the eighth. The Larks outhit Fort Collins 14 to four, aided by three Fox errors.

First baseman Matt Leuty led the Larks with three RBI, going 1 for 4 at the plate with one run. Ty Leffler, Zair Koeiman and Even Gruener each accounted for two runs, with Koeiman going 4 for 5.

Friday's win moved Hays to 18-11 on the season.
