Jason Zgardowski threw seven shutout innings in his debut and the Hays Larks played a crisp game in all phases and delivered a 7-0 home Jayhawk League victory against El Dorado on Saturday night at Larks Park.

Zgardowski, a right-hander from Midland (Tex.) Community College, walked four batters in the first three innings and threw perfect fourth, fifth and sixth innings. He helped the Larks save a bullpen that had to work nine innings in a 9-8 11-inning victory Friday. Hays tallied single runs in the second, third, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Zair Koeiman had struggled this season, but delivered his first hit of the series with a two-run double to right field in the fifth inning. Shortstop Elvin Rodriguez, the No. 8 hitter, reached base twice and scored in the sixth.

Third baseman Ty Gilmore, the No. 9 hitter, had two hits and a RBI. Jake Placzek continued his hot hitting when he reached base three times in the second slot, including two runs scored.

The Larks moved to 7-1, 3-1 in Jayhawk League. El Dorado took its second loss. Check later for more from Saturday's win.
