Nick Goza threw a complete-game four-hitter, but an error in the sixth proved costly as the Hays Larks suffered a 3-2 Jayhawk League loss at the hands of the Derby Twins on Saturday night at Larks Park.

Goza took his first loss of the season, giving up three runs (none earned) all in the sixth inning.

The teams are scheduled to play the third game of the series at 7 p.m. today.

Hays (28-11, 20-10 JL) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Aaron Cornell and a balk call against Derby starter Kevin William, but William settled in for a solid game after that. He went six innings, gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits. Jacob Westerhouse pitched two innings and Graylon Brown slammed the door on the Larks in the ninth for the save.

Derby's three runs came after an error on Larks' shortstop Jake Placzek, who had to make a hurried throw on a hard-hit ball.

Cornell went 3 for 4 with the RBI. The Larks' other two hits came from Brent Gillespie and Ty Gilmore.
Goza (5-1) had three strikeouts and one walk in the loss.

Newcomer Ross Vance is slated to make his Larks' debut in Game 3 today as Hays looks to keep a two-game lead on Wellington in the league race. El Dorado, which lost Saturday at Liberal, is 2.5 games back.
