(MCT) -- Danny Manning has agreed to become Wake Forest's next basketball coach.

The news, first reported by the Winston-Salem Journal and several national media outlets, has been confirmed by The Fayetteville Observer.

Manning, 47, compiled a 38-29 record over the last two seasons as Tulsa's coach. He will replace Jeff Bzdelik, who resigned March 20 after posting a 51-76 overall record and 17-51 mark in ACC play during his four seasons with the Demon Deacons. They went 17-16 this season with a sophomore-heavy roster.

Manning flew to Winston-Salem on Wednesday and left Thursday for the suburbs of Dallas, where coaches and administrators have gathered for the Final Four. According to the Journal, Manning agreed to coach Wake during a late-night, early morning meeting with athletics director Ron Wellman.

The 6-foot-10 Manning played at Page High School in Greensboro, moved to Lawrence, before his senior year and led Kansas to the 1988 NCAA championship. The top pick in that year's draft, he played 15 NBA seasons and appeared in two All-Star games.

Manning served as a Kansas assistant from 2006-12 and led Tulsa to a 17-16 record in 2013. This season, the Golden Hurricane went 21-13 after finishing in a four-way tie for first place in Conference USA, winning the tournament title and dropping an NCAA tournament opener to UCLA.

As far as postseason success, Manning's record at Tulsa is 4-3. His first team went 1-1 in the conference tournament and lost its CBI opener. This year's team went 3-0 in the league tournament, beating Louisiana Tech in the final.
