Monarchs earn win, then rained out

LARNED -- The Hays Monarchs got one game of their doubleheader with Larned in Monday before rain came through.

It was a win for the Monarchs.

Hays scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead and the game was called after the fifth when the storm came through.

Pierce Schippers (2-2) picked up the victory as Hays moved to 4-4 for the season. He gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits with a strikeout and a walk.

Cameron Brin and Jordan Gottschalk each had a double, while Pierce Schippers finished 2 for 2 and drove in a run. Shane Zimmerman and Gottschalk also recorded RBIs.

The Monarchs are scheduled for a 6 p.m. doubleheader in Colby on Wednesday.
