La CROSSE --  Junior quarterback Jack Garcia accounted for six touchdowns (four passing, two rushing). He threw for 230 yards on 9 of 16 passing and had nine carries for 54 yards. Senior fullback Lucas Moeder added 76 yards on nine carries with a touchdown. Junior Andrew Jay and senior Taylor Yohe each caught three passes from Garcia. La Crosse travels to Class 3A Hoisington this week. Ellis plays its home opener against Plainville.

HILL CITY --  Sophomore Nolan Lowry carried the ball 24 times for 105 yards and scored three touchdowns for the Tigers, who defeated Hill City in the season opener for the second straight season. Sophomore Clay Money led the Ringneck offense with 66 yards on eight carries with three scoring runs. Stockton outgained the Ringnecks 259-187. Each team fumbled the ball at least five times. Stockton lost four fumbles, while Hill City lost just one. Hill City travels to Osborne this week, while Stockton hosts Trego.

VICTORIA -- On a night where the Knights honored a state championship team from 1988, the Knights got off to a hot start by beating perennial contender and Eight-Man Division I playoff hopeful Macksville. It was Victoria's second straight win in the series as the Knights won 34-20 last season in Macksville.

Sam Ottley threw four TD passes in the first half.

Next, Victoria travels to St. John.

NESS CITY -- It was a successful start in Ness City's hopes of its Eight-Man Division I state title defense. Junior Jacob Hoss rushed for 120 yards on 15 carries for the Eagles and senior Morgan Flax added 44 yards on seven carries with a pair of touchdowns. Junior quarterback Tanner McMillen added two rushing scores. Senior Trevor Hawkins also scored a rushing TD, carrying the balla nine times for 98 yards. Ness City has won 14 straight games dating back to last season. Ness City plays at Macksville on Friday.

WaKEENEY -- Senior Kenton Ubelaker picked up right where he left off a season ago. He rushed for 104 yards and two scores, and was huge in the return game for the Bulldogs. He had five punt returns for 226 yards and two return touchdowns, then had one kickoff return go for 78 yards and a score. He had 340 all-purpose yards. Sophomore quarterback Jake Tiernan finished 6 of 6 for 104 yards with a score to Maverick LeRock, who caught two passes for 63 yards. LeRock added 55 yards on the ground with nine carries.

For Trego, senior quarterback Devon Ghumm had 20 carries for 91 yards, and passed for 107 yards on a 11 of 17 passing with two TDs. He found senior Colton Parker twice in the end zone. Parker caught five balls for 59 yards. Sophomore Cordell Ratliff also saw time under center. He completed 4 of 11 passes for 56 yards and a score. Senior Cade Papes addded 74 yards on the ground on eight carries and a score. Osborne hosts Hill City on Friday, while Trego goes to Stockton.

The Buffaloes got two TD runs from senior Michael Capo and led 40-0 at halftime, then tacked on a 20-yard run from freshman Tyler Beckman to end the game in the third.

KENSINGTON -- In a matchup of last year's state runners-up from Eight-Man Divison I (Rock Hills) and Eight-Man Division II (Thunder Ridge), Thunder Ridge avenged last season's 62-16 loss to Rock Hills.

Trent Rietzke rushed for 210 yards and four TDs, scoring on runs of 35, 1, 4 and 21 yards. Garrett Krueger added 49 yards on 11 rushes and threw for 22 yards and a score on a 3 of 7 passing. Larame Boyle had 75 yards rushing on 11 carries and got the scoring started for the Longhorns.
