TMP dominates Scott City

SCOTT CITY -- The Thomas More Prep-Marian baseball team opened its season on Tuesday with a pair of runaway victories at Scott City, winning 24-0 and 18-5.

TMP (2-0) scored 19 runs in the third inning of Game 1, a game called in the fourth inning because of the run rule. The Monarchs outhit the Beavers 15-2, aided by Scott City's 12 fielding errors.

Junior Kameron Schmidt took the win on the mound for TMP, giving up one hit and striking out four in two innings of work. Grant Romme, Ryan Schippers and Taylor Wasinger had 3 RBI each to lead the team, with Romme and Ricky Hockett each recording four runs.

The Monarchs wasted little time in Game 2, scoring 11 runs over the first two innings. TMP outhit Scott City 10-6 in the second game, and the Beavers were again plagued by nine fielding errors.

Senior Cameron Brin led the way on the mound in Game 2, giving up two hits and three runs while striking out six batters in four innings to get the win.

Brin also led TMP at the plate with a team-high 3 RBI. Senior Jordan Gottschalk led the Monarchs with three hits.

Next for TMP is a trip to Garden City on Tuesday. Start time is 4 p.m.
