SALINA -- The Thomas More Prep-Marian baseball team held off a late rally in Game 2 against Salina's Sacred Heart on Thursday to preserve the doubleheader sweep, winning 8-2 and 5-4 in Salina.

The Monarchs led 5-1 heading into the bottom half of the sixth inning in the second game before letting Sacred Heart back into it. TMP gave up a run on a throwing error and then two more on a double to the next batter.

Leading by a run heading into the seventh and final inning, TMP's Liam Stults stepped in to get the save, striking out three of the five batters he faced to end the game.

Cameron Brin got the win for TMP in Game 2, striking out eight batters while giving up four runs (zero earned) in six innings. He also led the team with two RBI.

Game 1 wasn't as dramatic, with TMP scoring two runs in each the first, second and third innings to cruise to the seven-inning win, 8-2. The Monarchs outhit Sacred Heart 11-5 and didn't allow them to score until the sixth inning.

Kameron Schmidt earned the win for TMP, giving up no runs, one hit and striking out six batters in five innings. Braiden Werth finished the game out for the save in the final two innings.

Grant Romme and Taylor Wasinger led TMP with two RBI each, while Stults led the team with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate despite no RBIs and only one run.

TMP (11-3) will host Larned in a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday at TMP Field.
