Hays High School junior sweeper Reagan Kaiser was named the Western Athletic Conference girls' soccer Player of the Year for 2013.

Kaiser helped the Indians to a 15-3-1 record and quarterfinal berth in the Class 5A state playoffs.

The WAC team was announced Thursday with five Indians garnering first-team nods. Indian coach Chris Michaelis, after guiding his squad to an 8-0 conference championship, was recognized as the WAC Coach of the Year.

In addition to Kaiser, Indians collecting first-team honors were: seniors Taylor Herman, Shelby Dinkel, Laura Truman and Megan Bird.

Junior Lacey Pfannenstiel collected honorable mention honors.

Kaiser led a defense that allowed a school record nine goals during the regular season and 11 overall.

Herman led the team with 13 goals and also had six assists. Dinkel scored five goals and posted two assists, and Bird scored nine goals and provided two assists.

Truman was goalkeeper for the Indians and finished with nine clean sheets.

Pfannenstiel scored three goals.

Hays High made back-to-back quarterfinal appearances the last two seasons and made a trip to the final four last season in Class 5A.

The 2013 season ended with a 1-0 loss in the quarterfinals Tuesday at HHS Field.
