Legion sweeps Great Bend

The Hays Senior Legion continued its roll over rival Great Bend with a road doubleheader sweep Tuesday night. Hays won the first game, 11-0 in four innings, and the second game, 6-1, in 10 innings. Hays improved to 15-11 in the final contests before this weekend's home Wild West Fest tournament.

In the first game, Hays had nine hits and drew four walks. Clayton Basgall went 2 of 2 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Kade Parker went 1 of 2 with a run scored and three RBIs in a game that was called after four innings because of the run rule. Cam Klaus pitched four scoreless innings, allowing three hits against eight strikeouts and no walks in the victory.

Hays tallied five runs in the first, three in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth in the victory.

In the second game, Hays collected 12 hits and five players had at least two hits. Chandler Rule went 3 of 5 with a run scored and four RBIs. Hays scored one run in the first and then five in the 10th. Bryce Beck worked all 10 innings for Great Bend, allowing six runs on 12 hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. Brady Bieker went the first five innings, allowing one run on four hits. Kade Parker worked four scoreless innings and Clayton Basgall struck out the side in the 10th.
