Led by two individual state champions and a winning team, Hays High School turned in an impressive showing at the Kansas State Career Development Conference earlier this month in Overland Park.

With their top-two finishes in their respective events, 11 HHS students qualified for the 2013 international conference April 24 to 27 in Anaheim, Calif.

That marks the 14th straight year students from Shaina Prough's HHS marketing classes have qualified for nationals.

Leading the way for the Indians at state were senior Shelby Dinkel and junior Macy Pfeifer, who each won individual events, and the senior duo of Caitlyn Miller and Jessica Carreira, who teamed up to win the financial literacy promotion plan.

Two of Hays High's state championship teams from a year ago qualified for nationals again as seniors Arin Straub and Courtney Storer placed second with their community service project this year, and seniors Millie Copper and Darian Leiker also finished as runners-up in the entrepreneurship promotion project along with a third teammate, classmate Nick Glassman.

Nine of those 11 qualifiers will compete at nationals, and two other HHS students will participate in other educational sessions -- junior Seth Junk in the leadership development academy and senior Aubree Karlin in the senior management institute.
