KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Hutchinson News was named the 2013 David R. Bradley Member of the Year Sunday, honoring both the paper's contributions to The Associated Press cooperative and its efforts to cover the impact of the health care overhaul on Kansans.
AP editors lauded the News for its contributions to the Kansas wire and for its cooperation in a joint reporting project with AP examining the impact of the health care law on Kansas.
"The Hutchinson News is a vibrant community newspaper that also tackles statewide enterprise, and the newspaper continued its strong tradition in 2013," said Chris Clark, AP's news editor for Missouri and Kansas. "In September they helped produce an explanatory and exhaustively researched series of stories examining the health care law. The project won wide play across the state and underlined Hutchinson's leadership position in Kansas journalism."
The award was created to honor AP members for their consistent and frequent cooperation with AP, including efforts to provide news tips and photos for sharing with other member newspapers. The honor was presented during the AP's annual Missouri-Kansas editors and publishers meeting in Kansas City.
