Man, 30, struck, killed by freight train near Wellington

(MCT) A 30-year-old man walking along the railroad tracks near Wellington on Monday was struck and killed by a freight train, the Sumner County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

The victim was walking west on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks about two miles west of Wellington shortly before 4 p.m. when he was struck from behind by the westbound train, the sheriff's office said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, the office said. Identification of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the family.
