Man struck, killed by train in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- Police in Lawrence say a male pedestrian has died after being hit by a freight train.

6News Lawrence reports (http://bit.ly/HdJBDp ) officers were called to the scene in the Burcham Park area at mid-afternoon Tuesday.

Sgt. Trent McKinley says the adult male was hit by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train. He was placed in an ambulance but died before reaching a hospital.

The man's name was not immediately released.

Police say there is no pedestrian or roadway crossing where the accident happened. Personnel from BNSF are helping in the investigation.
