How do I get started?
If you are a current print subscriber, simply register for an account when prompted. You will need the account number on the postcard we sent to your billing address. If you don’t have that or are not a current subscriber, call the Circulation Department at (785) 628-1081, Ext. 111, to get details.
Why do I need to set up an account?
Beginning Jan. 14, 2013, The Hays Daily News will begin charging non-subscribers who access the digital editions on a regular basis. Visitors to our website and mobile apps will receive 10 free page views per month, then their access will be denied until they become a subscriber. We believe subscribers of The Hays Daily News deserve the ability to read the news on the vehicle of their choosing — whether it be the actual newspaper delivered to their home, on their computer or on a mobile device.
Will I have to sign in each time I visit?
No. You will have to sign in one time on each different device you utilize. After that, the electronic cookies will remember you.
Why are you charging for some stories on your website?
It is not financially sound for The Hays Daily News to give away its content electronically any longer. We will join a growing number of small and large newspaper companies across the country, including the New York Times, that now charge for content. Up to this point, print subscribers have basically subsidized those who only access us digitally. It is economically necessary to receive payment from all regular readers in order to pay the professional who gather and create the award-winning content you’ve grown accustomed to.
What will continue to be free on HDNews.net and The Hays Daily News mobile apps?
How will I know what content will require a subscription?
Once you’ve clicked on 10 items in a 30-day period, you will encounter a sign-in screen. If you do not make a purchase decision at that point, you will not have access again until the end of that 30-day period. If you are a subscriber and encounter a sign-in screen, use the account number on the postcard we sent to your billing address. If you don’t have that, call the Circulation Department at (785) 628-1081, ext. 111, for assistance.
I have a weekend-only subscription, do I need to activate an account?
Yes. Free access to our digital content is given only to six-day-per-week home subscribers. Call the Circulation Department at (785) 628-1081, ext. 111, to get an account started.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can cancel your subscription at any time. When you cancel, we will stop charging your account at your next scheduled deduction. Your unlimited access will continue until your subscription expires.
How many accounts can I create with my subscriber number?
Each subscriber number can be assigned to only ONE account, which can be used to access content on all of your devices — personal computer, tablet or cellphone.
