By The Hays Daily News

WICHITA — The Hays Larks' 2012 season came to an end Friday night in the semifinals of the 78th annual NBC World Series at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Falling down 3-0 after three innings, Hays couldn't regroup and lost 6-2 to the Seattle Studs. The Larks' season comes to an end with a 35-13 record, their seventh Jayhawk League title in 12 years, and a third-place finish in the NBC.

The Larks earned several NBC honors, including best offense. Austin Darby was also selected as the top RBI performer, and Shawn Lewick was named the tourney's top pitcher.

After falling the first round, Hays won six straight games in the elimination bracket to make the semifinals.

Seattle (41-10), which has placed second in two out of the last three tournaments, moves into Saturday's title game against the winner of Friday's late game between the defending champion Santa Barbara (Calif.) Foresters and the Jayhawk League's El Dorado Broncos.
