Eagles continue play in Oklahoma

By The Hays Daily News

The Hays Legion Eagles baseball team split its two games Friday, then won Saturday in the South Plains Classic baseball tournament in Midwest City, Okla.

The Eagles defeated Tuttle, Okla., 12-8, then lost 12-4 in five innings to the Oklahoma Outlaws on Friday, then bounced back for an 8-0 victory Saturday against Ada, Okla., behind a complete game for Layne Downing.

Against Tuttle on Friday, the Eagles came back from a 6-3 deficit with five runs in the fourth and four in the fifth. Trenton Henningsen picked up the win in relief. Zack Legleiter had a good game, offensively. He finished 3 for 5 with a double, two runs scored, and two driven in.

In the game against the Outlaws, Oklahoma scored 11 runs in the first inning off starter Kade Parker. Hays attempted a rally with four runs in the fourth inning, but couldn't break the run-rule before the fifth. Kaden Rohr, Marcus Atlman and Downing had the Eagles' three hits.

Tournament action continues Sunday.
