By The Hays Daily News

SALINA -- The Hays High School boys' tennis team competed at the Salina South Invitational on Thursday. The Indians were led by a ninth-place finish from their No. 1 doubles team of junior Andrew McGinnis and senior Austin Berry. The duo won their final three matches 8-7 (7-3), 8-3, 8-7 (7-4), defeating teams from Andover, Salina South and Salina Central. This came after losing to Valley Center's No. 1 duo, 8-1, in their opening match.

The only other win came in a teammate vs. teammate battle, when No. 1 singles player Mikey Ploutz defeated fellow Indian Logan VanDerWege, 8-5. Ploutz finished 1-3 on the day, while VanDerWege and the No. 2 doubles team of Brayden Dreher and Jacob Alexander finished without a win.

Hays High will next compete at Garden City on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.
