Legion Eagles split first two games in Manhattan

MANHATTAN -- The Hays Eagles Legion baseball team split its first two games of tournament action Friday in Manhattan at Tointon Stadium.

The Eagles won their first game, 9-0 in six innings against Great Bend, then lost 10-9 to Manhattan.

Against Great Bend, Kade Parker pitched all six innings, giving up just four hits with five strikeouts and no walks to earn the win.

Hays put up five runs in the second inning with a two-RBI single by Trenton Henningsen, and an RBI double by Dalton Stout. Layne Downing also drove in a run with a triple.

After scoring one run in each of the third and fourth, Hays set the run rule with two runs in the sixth. Cole Schumacher had an RBI single, as did Connor Rule to set the final margin.

Parker finished 2 for 4 with a run scored, and Henningsen was 1 for 2 with two RBIs.

Agianst Manhattan, Hays rallied after falling down 10-4. The Eagles (3-1) scored three runs in the fifth and two in the seventh, but the game ended with a runner at second base.

Kaden Rohr (0-1) took the loss in four innings pitched. He gave up eight runs (five earned) with one strikeout and three walks. Brady Bieker pithed three innings of relief. Downing collected three hits --  including a home run -- for the Eagles with three runs scored. Stout drove in a pair of runs.

The Eagles were scheduled for 12:15 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. games Saturday against St. Joe, and the Salina Falcons.
