Werth named WAC's top player

Hays High School junior Brady Werth was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year on the all-conference team, released Monday.

Werth and senior guard Jordan Windholz were named to the WAC first-team, while seniors Lane Clark and Kyler Niernberger were honorable mention selections.

Hays High 29th-year coach Rick Keltner was named the WAC Coach of the Year after the Indians finished 8-0 in conference play. Hays High finished the regular season undefeated, and didn't lose until the semifinals of the Class 5A state tournament in Topeka, and ended up fourth.

Dodge City senior Austin Weiser, Garden City junior Caleb Tramp and Great Bend freshman Kody Crosby round out the WAC first team.

On the girls' side, Hays High sophomore Audra Schmeidler earned WAC honorable mention honors.

Great Bend coach Carrie Minton was named the Coach of the Year, while Garden City junior Jaymie Bernbeck was the top player.

Dodge City senior Katrin Roenfeldt, Garden City senior Taryn Tempel, Liberal senior Jai Chapman and Great Bend senior Morgan Harwood round out the first-team list.
