Trego sophomore qualifies for state tennis

WaKeeney-Trego Community sophomore Isaiah Fabrizius qualified for the Class 3-2-1A state championship for the second straight year. He took sixth in singles at the WaKeeney regional. Fabrizius is 12-15 and scored the only two points for the Golden Eagles. WaKeeney finished seventh in the eight-team regional. Russell was eighth with one point. Claflin-Central Plains won with 23 points.

Fabrizius defeated Ellsworth's Aiden Mendez 6-0, 6-1, then lost to Hoisington's Ryan Smith 6-2, 6-1. Fabrizius defeated Cimarron's Caleb Neuschafer 6-2, 6-4 to earn a spot in the top six. Then, he lost to Ellsworth's Isaac Herzog 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the fifth-place match.
