Teen, child injured in Monday accident
NORTON — A van collided head-on with a semi Monday afternoon 3.5 miles east of here, sending a teenager and a 2-year-old to Kansas City-area hospitals.
Sabrina D. Field-Pirotte, 16, Phillipsburg, was westbound on U.S. Highway 36 at approximately 3:40 p.m. when the van she was driving went left of center for an unknown reason, striking an eastbound semi head-on, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Field-Pirotte was taken to Norton County Hospital, then flown to the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City. She was wearing a seat belt. A passenger, Jonathan Pirotte, 2, Phillipsburg, was taken to the Norton hospital and flown to Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City. He was in a child seat, according to the KHP report.
Other passengers, Brandy S. Field, 36, Phillipsburg, and Kyra A. Pirotte, 5, were taken to the Norton hospital with injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.
The driver of the semi was not injured.
