Semi driver airlifted to Kearney after rollover
PHILLIPSBURG -- A Texas man was hospitalized after an accident shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday on the south edge of Phillipsburg.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 1997 Dodge Intrepid driven by Doris Dixon Stowell, 89, Phillipsburg, was southbound on U.S. Highway 183 when she made a U-turn in front of a northbound semi driven by Jason Glenn Hitchcock, 50, Gilmer, Texas.
The 1995 Kenworth struck the passenger car in the back right, then drove into the east ditch and rolled.
Stowell was not injured, the KHP said, but Hitchcock was transported to Phillips County Hospital for treatment of injuries, then airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney, Neb.
Stowell was wearing a seat belt, and Hitchcock was not, the KHP reported.
