Much of the Hays USD 489 central office reorganization is taking place internally, but patrons following board of education meetings soon might notice another change at the meetings.
Superintendent Dean Katt is recommending the board name his assistant, Elizabeth Jaeger, as board clerk.
The recommendation is listed on the Monday work session agenda.
If the board approves the recommendation, current clerk Cheryl Shubert will be the deputy board clerk.
The board approved Shubert, who also serves as accounting director, as the board clerk in 2012. She replaced Sandra Bainter, who retired after serving as clerk since 2000. Bainter also was accounting director.
"It fits better if Elizabeth be the board clerk (and) Cheryl work with the budget," Katt said.
"The board clerk (position) always has been a team effort between our office and accounting," Jaeger said.
Shubert agreed, saying Jaeger puts the agenda material together.
"The accounting part will still be done in this office," Shubert said.
As Katt's assistant, Jaeger is the contact person for the board.
"We always call Elizabeth when we want to put something on the agenda," BOE president Greg Schwartz said.
Schwartz said he's talked to Katt about the change, but it didn't originate with the board.
The duty change fits the board's goal of "making better use of the people we have," Schwartz said.
As the reorganization continues, some of Jaeger's other duties involving human resources and professional development eventually will be reassigned, Katt said.
Jaeger has been assistant to the district's superintendent for seven years, working with Fred Kaufman, Will Roth and Katt.
A native of northern California, she earned her undergraduate degree in California and her master's degree in Oregon.
"This is home now," she said of her job with the district. "I'm working with great people."
Jaeger and her husband, John, a beef cattle scientist at the Kansas State University Agricultural Research Center, have four children -- Cora, a junior at KSU, Amelia, 9, Tygh, 5, and Levi, 4.
The board meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Toepfer Board Room in Rockwell Administration Center, 323 W. 12th.
Work session discussion topics are SMART Goal Review, budget update, board policy changes and administrators' contracts,
Other agenda items are audit report, expense comparison report, setting records fee and Roberts Rules of Order.
