Hays man arrested after police chase
An early morning traffic stop Saturday led to a police pursuit -- which resulted in minor injuries to an officer -- and a suspect barricading himself in a residence.
Blake Hadley, 24, Hays, allegedly fled the scene of a traffic stop at approximately 1 a.m. after the officer asked him to perform some sobriety tests.
The officer briefly was dragged along by the man's vehicle as he drove off. The officer sustained minor injuries but was able to disengage from the car and pursue the suspect.
The pursuit continued through downtown Hays until speeds became unsafe, prompting the on-duty supervisor to call off the pursuit.
The suspect was found at a residence in the 1000 block of Reservation Road, where he barricaded himself in the house and refused to come out. Police obtained a search warrant, and the Special Situation Response Team and a Hays police negotiator were called to the scene.
The suspect refused to respond to repeated attempts at communication, and several homes were evacuated. A warrant was served and Hadley was taken into custody.
Hadley is being held in the Ellis County Jail for pending criminal charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, DUI, felony obstruction, and felony eluding.
The Hays Police Department was assisted by the Ellis County Sheriff's Department, Ellis County EMS, Hays Fire Department and Hays Communication Center.
