City to discuss Fly Hays

The Hays City Commission on Thursday will discuss spending half of the money set aside for its Fly Hays marketing campaign to boost the city's new airline carrier.

The commission meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

City officials set aside $50,000 to promote the Hays Regional Airport and SkyWest Airlines when they reached an agreement to secure the new carrier. The Fly Hays campaign will resume this year to publicize the new 50-passenger jet service.

Other business on the agenda:

* Commissioners will discuss holding an Aug. 14 meeting for public input on the 2015 budget.

* The city's 2013 audit will be reviewed because Kansas law requires the city hire an outside group to analyze its finances. The Adams, Brown, Beran and Ball firm will present its findings.

* Mayor Henry Schwaller IV will recommend appointments to various community groups. Nominations include: Robert Meier, building trades board; Ron Augustine and Jim Krob, Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course advisory board; Tammy Younger, Hays Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Committee; and Elizabeth Innes, Hays Housing Authority Board.
