District court hands down sentences

A series of felony sentencings in Ellis County District Court resulted in five people going to prison and a host of others assigned to probation, according to Ellis County Attorney Tom Drees.

According to Drees, sentenced to prison were:

* Steven Koerner, 49, Hays, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for possession of methamphetamine.

* Bradlay G. Hawkins, 28, Hays, was sentenced to 24 months in prison on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine. Probation on a 2009 case involving abuse of a child was revoked, and he was sentenced to serve 36 months in prison, the sentences to run concurrently.

* Bobby J. Wilson, 22, Hays, was sentenced to 44 months in prison on a charge of robbery, stemming from a February home invasion. He was sentenced to 12 months in prison on a charge of residential burglary. The sentences are to run concurrently.

A co-defendant in the case, Clayton K. Staab, 26, Hays, was sentenced to 12 month's probation on a burglary charge and six months on a criminal threat charge.

The home invasion and burglary netted them $1 and three cellular phones, Drees said.

* John S. Stevens, 24, Phillipsburg, sentenced to 24 months in prison on a charge of sale of cocaine. He will have to register as an offender when he is released.

*  Sent to prison after a previous probation was revoked was Robert C. Greeson, 24, Hays, on a felony charge of sale of marijuana. He received a 15-month sentence. His probation was revoked after he was convicted in Pawnee County District Court on a charge of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Sentenced to probation or community corrections Monday:

* James M. Mason Jr., 28, Hays, felony possession of marijuana, sentenced to 12 months probation.

* Christopher L. Jamison, 25, Hays, sentenced to 13 months for possession of methamphetamine, sentenced up to 18 months probation with treatment.

* Alisha K. Dinges, 29, Wichita, sentenced to 18 months probation on a charge of possession of morphine, and 12 months for stealing a roll and a half of quarters from a car. The sentences are to be served consecutively.

* Edmundo P. Hernandez, 33, Hays, sentenced to 18 months probation on a conviction of possession of cocaine.

* Dawn E. Pfannenstiel, 51, Hays, sentenced to 18 months probation on a charge of distribution of marijuana, and a second 18 months for possession of methamphetamine. The sentences are to be served concurrently.

* Phillip A. Humphries, 44, Rush Center, sentenced to 18 months probation on a charge of reckless aggravated battery. After he was sentenced Monday, a breath test was administered when registered at community corrections, and he was found to have been drinking and was remanded to jail. He was sentenced a second time -- receiving the same sentence -- Tuesday.

* Thane G. Kaiser, 19, Salina, sentenced to 12 months probation on a charge of criminal threat and an additional 12 months for attempted failure to register as an offender. The sentences are to run consecutive.

* Dustin M. Braun, 28, Victoria, 12 months probation on a charge of criminal damage to property.

* Erica A. Timmons, 34, Phillipsburg, up to 18 months probation on a felony charge of possession of marijuana.

* Christopher T. Parson, 30, Hays, sentenced to a year's probation on a felony DUI charge. He was fined $1,750 and ordered to spend 48 hours in jail and 88 days under house arrest. He had two prior DUIs.

* Tamera C. Lyne, 27, Hays, sentenced to two terms of up to 18 months probation on two counts of felony possession of marijuana. The sentences are to be served consecutively. She has a pending case against her for residential burglary.

* Larry W. McVey Jr., 26, Larned, sentenced to 24 months probation on two counts of theft by deception, for fraudulently obtaining 55 phones from Viaero Wireless. A restitution hearing has not yet been scheduled.

* John H. Anthony Sr., Hays, sentenced to 12 months probation on a felony charge of eluding law enforcement officers. He was sentenced to 48 hours in jail and fined $750 on a misdemeanor DUI.

* Hector Solis, 22, Hays, sentenced to 18 months probation on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

* Brandon L. Bieker, 20, Ellis, sentenced to 12 months probation on a charge of interference with a law enforcement officer.

* On Tuesday, Melinda M. Rozean, 30, Hays, was given 18 months probation on a felony charge of distributing oxycodone. She received a second 18-month probation sentence on a second charge of selling hydrocodone to the KBI. The probation is to be served consecutively.
