Man arrested after allegedly driving into HHS coach's house

A Hays man was arrested early Friday morning after police said the pickup he was driving left the street and collided with a house in the 2900 block of Willow.

A Hays man was arrested early Friday morning after police said the pickup he was driving left the street and collided with a house in the 2900 block of Willow.

Michael A. French, 24, Hays, was arrested within 30 minutes on the 300 block of East 33rd after the Ford F-150 he allegedly was driving struck air conditioning units, then the side of the house, owned by Hays High School football coach Ryan Cornelsen. There were no injuries.

French was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; leaving the scene of a property accident; and failure to report an accident. French has been released on bond.

The Hays Police Department and Hays Fire Department responded to the scene at 12:48 a.m. Midwest Energy also was at the scene. Freon, which was leaking from the air conditioner units, was cleaned up.
