Hays students to attend Constitutional Academy
Three 2014 Hays High School graduates will be attending the Bill of Rights: Constitutional Academy from Monday through July 12 in Washington.
Reagan Kaiser, Alex Green and Samantha Rohleder were selected for the week-long destination study, said Sondra Hickert, a teacher at the Learning Center who has participated in the Constitutional Academy.
"It's an incredible opportunity," Hickert said. "The scholars they bring in are just outstanding."
The program gives students a chance to experience Washington through lectures, activities, group projects, visits to historic sites and a sightseeing tour of the national monuments.
Students spend the week at Marymount University in Arlington, Va., with teachers serving as house parents.
Hickert attended a destination study at Mount Vernon in 2006.
She has received grants to take TLC students to smaller destination sites such as Brown v. Board of Education and the Eisenhower Presidential Library.
