Golf tournament raises money for DSNWK

Organizers of the Esther McMurtrie Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas announce more than $17,000 was raised from the event.

The four-person scramble tournament was Sept. 27 at Ellis Golf Club and organized by Friends of DSNWK. The event also included a prime rib dinner, auction and dance following the tournament.

Proceeds are being used to benefit DSNWK, which serves people with developmental disabilities in the 18 counties of northwest Kansas.

State library awards technology grants

TOPEKA -- The State Library of Kansas has awarded grants to 124 Kansas public libraries to help fund the purchase of one AWE Early Literacy Station (an all-in-one digital learning solution for children ages 2 to 8) in each recipient's library.

Area recipients are Bird City Public Library, Goodland Public Library, Grainfield Public Library, Logan Library, Ness City Public Library, Norton Public Library, Oakley Public Library, Osborne Public Library, Ransom Public Library, Russell Public Library, Sharon Springs Public Library, Smith Center Public Library and WaKeeney Public Library.

In September, SLK made a non-competitive grant available for Kansas public libraries interested in AWE Early Literacy Stations. Libraries serving a population less than 10,000 paid $500 towards a machine and libraries serving a population over
