Hays bank employee spots scam
A visit to Emprise Bank recently saved a customer $4,600. The customer visited the Emprise branch at 1011 E. 27th after receiving a fraudulent call from someone claiming to be an attorney from the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City.
The scammer purported the customer's grandson had been involved in an accident and needed money to pay for damages in order to avoid action from the authorities. The customer was set to withdraw and wire the funds when an Emprise employee stepped in and began asking questions, eventually confirming the situation was fraudulent.
"More often than not, just being inquisitive will bring key identifiers to the surface," said Wayne Woofter, president of Emprise Bank in Hays. "Asking the right questions can make all the difference when it comes to identifying fraud."
