Garage fire damages 2 vehicles

A home smoke alarm alerted the two residents of 3502 Fairway Drive to evacuate during a fire at their residence at approximately 3 a.m. Monday.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but it is believed to be accidental, according to the Hays Fire Department. The fire started in the garage, spread to the attic and damaged a 2007 Ford truck parked in the driveway, The flames also reached a 2013 Ford Edge inside the garage.

Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms through Walmart are available to be installed at no cost for individuals on fixed incomes and those who cannot afford protection, according to a press release. Call the city fire department at (785) 628-7330 for more information.
