Jana's Campaign 'Empty Place at the Table' will be Sept. 28
Special to The Hays Daily News
Jana's Campaign, Inc. invites the public to its second annual fundraiser at 6 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Robbins Center on the campus of Fort Hays State University. Empty Place at the Table features food, cocktails, an auction and live music as the legacy of Hays native Jana Mackey is remembered, symbolized by the "empty place."
Mackey was well known throughout Kansas for her advocacy for women. As a young adult, Mackey served as a sexual assault and domestic violence advocate and as one of the youngest lobbyists at the Kansas state capitol lobbying on issues important to women. Mackey, a 25-year-old law student, was killed by her ex-boyfriend in Lawrence in July 2008.
