Leiker files for state election
James Leiker, vice president of the USD 489 Board of Education, has declared his candidacy for the 111th District in the Kansas State Legislature.
The Democrat is a Hays native and Fort Hays State University graduate. He identified education and water as two major issues confronting Kansas.
"Current funding is a threat to public education," Leiker said in a statement. "We are at a point in time that we must decide will our next generation of citizens have the same opportunities to succeed or will we hinder their opportunities at a quality education?
"Water is also a huge issue, we need to find a means to sustain our sources for the progression of our communities and economy," he said.
Sue Boldra, R-Hays, currently represents the district.
