Area charities receive grants

Grants will help support area projects

Grants will help support area projects

Special to The Hays Daily News

Three local charities were recent recipients of $1,000 donations from the Midwest Energy Community Fund and CoBank to be used to support their own endowment funds.

The Rooks County Healthcare Foundation Fund and Dr. Harry E. Watts Memorial Fund for the Hays Senior Center created endowment funds with the Heartland Community Foundation, along with the existing Hays Area Children's Center Endowed Fund, to support their activities.

In January, Midwest Energy's Community Fund made a $5,000 investment that was matched by a $5,000 Sharing Success grant from CoBank. The $10,000 pool of funds, administered by the Heartland Community Foundation, has given 10 $1,000 donations to charitable organizations to establish their own endowment funds to support future projects.

"We at the Heartland Community Foundation are very appreciative of the endowed fund grants from the Midwest Energy Community Fund and CoBank," said Bob Lowen, Heartland executive director. "Those grants will enable those three important funds to grow and support their needs in  the years to come."

To apply and be eligible for one of these grants, an organization must be local and serve a specific project or need in Midwest Energy's service area.
