Suspect in custody after Gorham standoff

GORHAM -- At approximately 12:24 a.m. Saturday, officers from the Russell County Sheriff's office responded to 130 Chicago to a report of a possible suicidal subject.

GORHAM -- At approximately 12:24 a.m. Saturday, officers from the Russell County Sheriff's office responded to 130 Chicago to a report of a possible suicidal subject.

According to a news release from the sheriff's office, the subject was identified as Justin Windholz, who was found to have an active felony warrant from Northwest Kansas Community Corrections. Officers attempted to contact Windholz, who barricaded himself inside his home, according to the news release.

Officers from Kansas Highway Patrol and Russell County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Group attempted to talk Windholz out of his residence. After those efforts failed, deputies from the sheriff's office made entry into the residence.

At 2:31 a.m. the subject was taken into custody and transported to High Plains Mental Health for evaluation. The subject remains in custody, the release said.
