One dead after small plane crashes in Russell County

LAKE WILSON — A 66-year-old Cimarron man was killed Sunday when the single-engine airplane he was flying crashed on a road near Lake Wilson, the Russell County Sheriff’s office reported.

The pilot was identified as Rufus “Rusty” M. Woods III.

It’s not yet known what caused the crash, which was reported at approximately 12:20 p.m. Sunday.

Emergency crews from Russell County responded to the scene of the crash. The Kansas Highway Patrol and the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the accident.
