The Russell County Area Community Foundation announced grant applications will be accepted through Oct. 15 for the Fund for the Better Russell County Area. Applicants from qualified nonprofit organizations, local government and other organizations with a charitable interest will be considered.
Organizations receiving grants last year were Natoma Heritage Seekers, Russell USD 407, Deines Cultural Center, Russell County Free Fair, Sunrise Kiwanis, Russell Historical Society, Smoky Hills Public Television, Russell Community Theater, city of Gorham, Summer Kids Intervention Program and Grassroots Arts Center.
This year, approximately $30,000 is available via the grants.
"Funding for these grants comes from the generosity of donors who contribute to the foundation's unrestricted grant fund," said Angela Muller, foundation executive director. "This is a special fund that represents an investment in the future of the Russell County area. Grants support a variety of pressing charitable needs, ranging from education and the arts to historic preservation and beyond."
Donations to the fund receive a 50 percent match through the GROW II endowment challenge, sponsored by the Kansas Health Foundation.
Applications are available at www.rcacf.net or at 507 N. Main, Russell. For more information, call (785) 445-3611.
